Well, this past week I had an opportunity to do a little shopping and actually receive an overage. What is an overage, you ask? An overage is when you have a coupon that is worth more than the sale item. For example if an item was on sale for $1.25 but you have a coupon for $2 off, you will recieve the item for free (taxes not included) and get $0.75 back. That's like getting paid to shop! Here's my overage story for this week:
I learned that Walmart had Iams trial size dry dog food, Gilette Foam Shaving Cream trial size and Clorox Bleach on sale.
I had collected from my friends, family and neighbours all the coupon inserts they don't use and had 1 coupon for the bleach, 4 for the dog food and 5 for the shaving cream.
Put it together and this is what happened:
1x Bleach: $1.47 1x Coupon: $1.00 off Actual Cost: $0.47
4x Dog food: $1.73 4x Coupon: $2.00 off Actual Cost: -$1.08
15x Gilette: $1.27 5x Coupon: $5.00 WUB3* Actual Cost: -$5.95
Subtotal: -$6.56
HST (13%) $3.57
Cash Tend -$2.99
So I walked out with all that product and a little change in my pocket. A trip that was definitely worth it!
Please share with me any of your own overage stories. I would love to hear them.
Why pay full price when I know I can get it cheaper somewhere else!
It is astounding to me to watch someone pay full price or dare I say it, even see people get over charged for items that I know I can get for a fraction of the asking price. I am capable of paying what they are asking, but why? I don't have any extenuating circumstances that push me to use coupons. I thrive from the challenge of finding the coupons online and I don't know about you but I especially enjoy getting mail that doesn't cost me anything! Then I spend a couple hours a week looking at my flyers and matching any coupons I have to sale items that make good sales, GREAT!
On average I save atleast 40% through price matching, couponing and my 10% discount (as I shop where I work). On a weekly basis the savings multiply dramatically.
Now I wish to share my findings, experiences and savings with you.

Top Resources for Couponing in Canada
For coupons sent by mail:

websaver.ca
brandsaver.ca
gocoupons.ca
rightathome.ca
livingwell.ca
healthyshopper.ca (for organic products)
Trading coupons with your family, friends, social groups or perhaps joining a coupon train is another way to collect coupons and to share ones that you may not have use for before expiring.
For weekly flyer match ups and printable coupons:
mrsjanuary.com
Canadian coupons and Freebies Links (through Facebook)
Women's freebies (through Facebook)
Flyerland.ca

Alternative Resources
The tear pads in front of your local supermarket and in the aisles are great resources as well. Sometimes companies put coupons directly inside or on their packaging to use next time.
Another option is to write an email to the company directly, a lot of the time they will respond and include coupons for your comments.
And don't forget to look in your local newspapers for the red plum, smart source and P&G Brandsaver inserts every few weeks.
If there are any sites I missed please feel free to share by posting a comment below.

A little about myself
Hello, my name is Amanda. I am a 32 year old woman who is unmarried but living with the man I consider to be my husband, James. We have no children as of yet. We have a 5 year old dog named Oreo. As like anyone else, we have the life of bills, loans, debt and the dream of one day retiring a little richer than when we started.
I find it funny that a year ago I would never have thought to use coupons, especially for everyday items. But one day I saw the previews for that show "Extreme Couponing". With the curiosity flowing I jumped onto the Internet and started to learn all I could about couponing. Not only were people getting items for pennies, but sometimes Free. Well, wouldn't you know it, FREE is my favorite word. There is absolutely no way that these deals could be true! As the old adage goes "Nothing in life is for free". As fast as my little fingers could type I was signing up to couponing websites and hearing all the savings cha-chinging in my head. But wait, there's a catch....of course, there is always a catch...I am not a U.S. Citizen. I am Canadian. Okay, so as a Canadian the deals aren't as lavish and as readily available, but what the heck, I pull up my sleeves, dig a little harder and I start to find some great couponing resources that are valid here. So I begin my journey.
With a bit of reluctance I find myself starting to get excited when I hear the mailman drop the mail into my box. The coupons start rolling in. Great, it is time for my first shopping trip, armed with my list and my coupons; look out cashiers I am a "couponer" now. Sure enough, I had saved about $6. Like you, James starts laughing at me and my measly "savings". Oh, I will show him...even more determined then ever before to make a purchase with substantial savings I expand my research for finding coupons. I start receiving coupons more frequently and develop my own coupon binder to hold them all in an organized fashion. As my coupon collection is growing, I learn one important trick to the game; You have got to match your coupons to the items when they go on sale. Most items go on sale at least once every 3-4 months. Base on my own experiences most savings are 85% or higher. My last trip, I got PAID to shop, that is with my overages I actually got $3 back and 2 bags full of product. The best deal I have had yet!
Within the last couple of weeks I have built a database of websites I frequent for coupons, weekly price match up to flyers, other links to freebies, daily deals and print coupons, as well as education for being a better couponer. I have no intention of posting all the links of all the deals available as there would be too many to post daily, but it is my intentions to share with you my experiences and the great savings I come across as the pertain to me and my life. I do hope that you take this information and use it and share if you find it is relevant to you, your life and the people you know.
With that said and being in need of a close to my first blog...Cheers! And may the savings be plentiful!
